Description

The third register notes up to top E are illustrated and there is an explanation about alternative fingerings for D# in the third register. Exercise 53 assists with the coordination of fingers at the top of the scale after which the scale and arpeggio of E major for three octaves are presented. As this is the first time three-octave scales and arpeggios have appeared, there is a brief discussion of the choice of metre in which to play them. Practice Plan 30 incorporates all the material so far covered.
